Ramadan

Ramadan is the ninth month in the Islamic calendar, and also the month of fasting for Muslims. During this month, for religious reasons, Muslims abstain from eating and drinking for a month between sunrise (the “fajr” prayer) and sunset (the “maghrib” prayer). Children, pregnant women and the sick do not have to participate in Ramadan.

During the Ramadan period you can order all kinds of delicacies and other items here. So you no longer have to leave the house to receive all your Ramadan items on time. The fast stops in the evening with a short prayer, a glass of milk and a date. The date tree is often mentioned in the Quran and the prophet also broke his fast in this manner. After the fast follows the “iftar”, or a meal.

Dates
Giant date (medjoul dates) are wonderfully sweet and soft. Traditionally they are eaten during the fasting month of Ramadan at sunset and they would repair and cleanse the liver.

Mamul Cookies
In Morocco, Algeria and the Middle East, Ma’amoul is by far the most popular cookie during Ramadan. These are cookies made from a soft dough with a delicious date filling.

Sesame Cookies
Ramadan and sesame are inextricably linked, so sesame cookies should certainly not be missing after the Iftar or at Eid Al-Fitr.

Verveine and Lemongrass Tea
A lot of tea is drunk during Ramadan. Lemon verbena is a herb with a wonderful aroma. It is a cross between lemon, orange and lemongrass. This ensures a fresh and intense tea that, because of its digestive properties, fits perfectly with the extensive meals after sunset.

Seedless Olives with Mint
Especially in Turkey, olives are often eaten at the start of the Iftar, the meal after sunset. These olives have a refreshing taste due to the mint added to them.

Sesame Sticks
Savory snacks can certainly not be missed during Ramadan and the Eid Al-Fitr. Sesame sticks are deliciously savory and are rolled by hand.
